REIKI: LOVE AT THE TIPS OF MY FINGERS

Reiki is universal healing energy, love at work.

Mary can perform Distance Reiki for you. See below to request Reiki.

Whenever a Reiki practitioner touches anyone with the intention of sharing love or healing energy, Reiki flows.

That simplicity is the essence of Reiki. It is hands on work. First a Reiki Master/teacher attunes a student to the energy; from then on, the student is a practitioner for life. There are two additional degrees or levels of attunement, each giving special abilities. The energy flow, however, is established with the first attunement and is always there.

The attunement is a simple ritual in which the Master touches the student's hands and chakras, transmitting energies that create a protected channel for healing. The attunement starts a 21-day process of cleansing and balancing for the new practitioner. From the beginning, the practitioner is the first to receive healing.

Reiki principles, in fact, emphasize that the practitioner heals self first, then family and friends, and then others as she has time or inclination. Since sharing Reiki feels good, most of the practitioners I know enjoy sharing it often. But Reiki practitioners are not expected to burn themselves out by taking on more work than their other responsibilities allow.

Sometimes a practitioner will even quit using Reiki for a time. It will be there when the practitioner is ready again. Because it is an attunement instead of a lesson for the conscious mind, there is no "forgetting how".

On the other hand, the more a practitioner uses Reiki, on others or on self, the greater the flow and the more power Reiki gives.

Reiki is also about surrendering ego. The practitioner doesn't send energy; it is drawn through her by the client. The person receiving the healing energy is really in charge and can draw as much or as little energy as her body wants. The practitioner's hands "tell" her where to move them to facilitate healing.

Each practitioner feels the energy differently...my own hands feel a gentle pull urging them to shift position when the client's body wants energy at a different point. I feel the energy rise, peak and fall during a treatment; my hands tell me when the client has received enough energy, or when I should continue.

Reiki allows me to be present with a client without having to pay special attention to "holding" energy or "moving it through". I can listen, see the client's experience with my psychic vision, or just be present.

Because Reiki itself doesn't take my attention, I can be present as healer for myself, even when I'm in pain. I took my First Degree class because I wanted to control pain after oral surgery without unnecessary drugs. I took Second Degree training to I could treat myself in less time each day, and so I could help friends at a distance. Reiki doesn't seem to mind if our first intentions are for self; it encourages good self-care.

At the Master level, Reiki does require a deeper commitment to serving others and passing on the energy. For me, that only came after several years and after sharing Reiki with a friend who was dying. Preparation for Master training takes that shift in direction, I think, but I also know the level of training alone doesn't determine the power or ability of the healer.

Reiki follows love. The practitioner who gives the most with the most love will have the most healing power. Reiki itself will become the teacher.

As my own Master/teacher says, "Do Reiki, and you will see miracles under your hands."
